AMAZON HUB + HIGH-RISE DELIVERY

10/2/2021

Written by founder Kelly Stickel, looking at the future of business and work

Some of the high-rises in downtown Chicago have implemented Amazon Hub, which is a series of lockers in a secure place in the building where tenants self-service the retrieval of your packages.

First, you received a text to join the hub. When a package arrives, there is a text with a link to a barcode. You go to the lockers and place the barcode under the reader and it acknowledges the receipt and tells you that a door is opening.

Once you remove the package, you shut the door. If you have multiple packages you only need to read the first bar code. As you shut a door, another one opens. How profound.

What is interesting is there is no cardboard. It is either in a thin bag (image below), or the product has no additional wrapping. It says, "This packaging is lighter than our smallest box."
