Women2Watch in Brazil - VTEX DAY 2018 Recap

6/13/2018

VTEX Day 2018 was an epic event.  A few of the Women2Watch community participated in panels and our very own Kelly Stickel took the stage.  We partnered with with three amazing women from the organization: Daniela Jurado, Sales Director, Alessandra Hypolito, Head of VTEX DAY and VTEX Events and Fabiana Cunha, Global Head of Events. Although Alessandra wasn't able to join us for our interview, we look forward to collaborating with her again next year. As way to understand the Brazilian retail space and the struggles with gender equality in leadership, we took a moment to ask them to share a few things they learned during our time together.

1. What do you like about the Women2Watch Program?

Fabiana Cunha (FC): One of my favorites part was Kelly asking me to share the stage with her giving me space to share my thoughts. She also introduced me to other executive woman who are part of her network.

Daniela Jurado (DJ): What I really like is the altruistic objective of improving the professional lives of women around the world by giving them more power and public exposure. I also admire the deep research Remodista has done to support this, offering real and global numbers to show the inequality of the current professional world.

2. What did you learn from building and executing Remodista’s panel on women leaders in internal business?

FC: I learned a lot from this panel. I would like to highlight that the bad part is: gender inequality is not a problem for just a few — it is a problem for many, many people. And the good part is: things are getting better. We just need to keep in mind: keep your head up and be aware of your surroundings to stay ahead of visible challenges.

DJ: I learned about the numbers and current statistics of the job market in Brazil, and also how people in other countries are working to improve the inequality between the sexes in the workplace.

3. What are you looking forward to with this partnership?

DJ: I would love to tell other women about my professional background and what I have done to make it to where I am today. I would love to be part of this change movement by motivating other girls to get rid of fear and to risk more. On the flip side, look forward to learning more from these female leaders, their careers, and their experiences.

FC: I look forward to keep this new network alive, and to extending  this possibility to our North America team.
Thank you for the kind words Daniela and Fabiana! We look forward to furthering our partnership and inspiring women in retail all across the globe.
